Tributes continue to pour in from fans all over the world following the death of American celebrity bodybuilder Rich Piana.
The 46-year-old Piana died on Friday, 25 August after he was placed in a medically-induced coma earlier this month.
People have paid tribute to the 46-year-old on social media with messages such as: “Sad Week. Rest in Peace Rich Piana”, “I can’t believe you are actually gone” and “Gone too soon brother. Truly heartbreaking.”
Piana fell ill at his home in Florida on 10 August. He collapsed while having his hair cut by his girlfriend, fitness model Chanel Jansen. Although the authorities found more than 20 bottles of steroids and a white powder at his home at the time of his collapse it is still unclear whether these substances played a role in his death. Piana, a well-known Internet bodybuilding personality and businessman was in a relationship with Jansen at the time of his death. He previously admitted taking steroids since his late teens.
Rumours about his death circulated on social media on Friday before his estranged wife, Sara, officially confirmed that he had died.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Sara said: “I’m in tears writing this that @1dayumay has just passed away. I can can hardly believe this… I am so saddened & heartbroken that he didn’t make it.”
Piana had won Mr. California but in recent years stopped competing in bodybuilding competitions and focused on building various businesses, including a nutrition company. He regularly posted videos and photos on Instagram and YouTube and trained with celebrities such as “The Mountain” from Game of Thrones – Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.
Piana’s passing comes in the wake of the death of another prominent bodybuilder, IFBB Pro Dallas McCarver. McCarver, aged 26, died after reportedly choking on food.
