Today, 16 March, marks the start of the 2017 South African Raw (unequipped) Powerlifting Championships in Potchefstroom in the North West.

Today, 16 March, marks the start of the 2017 South African Raw (unequipped) Powerlifting Championships in Potchefstroom in the North West.

There will be three sessions comprising of Men 53kg, 59kg and 66kg as well as Men 74kg and Men 83kg. On Friday, 17 March it will be Men 93kg and 105kg, Women 43kg, 52kg and 57kg and Women 63kg. Saturday, 18 March will see Women 47kg, 84kg and 84+kg, Women 72kg and Men 120kg and 120+kg.

A powerlifter competes in three specific disciplines:

  • Squat
  • Bench Press
  • Deadlift

The sum or total of the best lift in each discipline determines the winner.

Streaming will start 5 minutes before the commencement of each session. The SA Powerlifting Federation, a member of SASCOC, is the only recognised governing body of all powerlifting in the country and is registered with the National Department of Sport and Recreation.
