IFBB on the lookout for new Pros
Marius Dohne recently became the newest SA athlete to join the IFBB Pro ranks, and the IFBB SA has confirmed that another two athletes have correctly submitted their applications for Pro cards. The IFBB SA is currently working with these athletes to help them secure their cards, and will announce their names at a later date.
A further boost for SA bodybuilding is the announcement that the IFBB SA will be scouting for one potential male athlete and one potential female athlete at the IFBB SA National Champs, hosted by IFBB KZN in Durban, who will get the opportunity to work towards their Pro card. This will also apply to the IFBB SA Muscle Evolution Grand Prix taking place in Cape Town in October. This means that 2010 could have a total of six potential candidates working towards their IFBB Pro cards – a massive step forward for the local community and is testament to the vastly improved level of this sport in South Africa!

Deserving athletes can either apply in writing to the IFBB SA President for their IFBB Pro card or aim to be spotted by the IFBB SA scouts at any one of the National shows, excluding the Novice category. The IFBB encourages athlete to work towards their Pro card by following the required six points below:
1.    Athletes need to compete solely in IFBB competitions for a minimum period of two full IFBB seasons – a term of two years. They cannot be affiliated to, compete or participate in, or guest pose at any other federation's or privately hosted show.
2.    The athlete must participate in at least one local show within their province in each year leading up to the provincial and national champs.
3.    The athlete must participate at their IFBB Provincial Champs and the IFBB National Champs in both years.
4.    The athletes must place first in his/her division at least once at the IFBB SA National Championships within that two year period.
5.    It would be beneficial if the athlete placed as the overall champion at least once at the IFBB SA National Championships (or another major national show) within that two year period (this is not a necessary requirement though).
6.    The athlete must represent IFBB SA at any one of the IFBB World Championships and place in the top ten, at least once within that two year period.

The following will need to be included in the initial application from the athlete:
•    Full personal details (i.e. full names, ID, address, contact numbers, email, etc).
•    Brief background/history regarding your involvement in IFBB bodybuilding and/or fitness.
•    Prior to the two years leading up to the application a list of all IFBB achievements and commitments must be given.
•    Attach three clear ‘in shape' colour photo’s (for example front view, side view, back view).
•    Prepare a personal motivation to become an IFBB Pro.

Once the IFBB SA President has verified all information on the athlete’s application he will then  begin his part of the criteria and requirements to IFBB International, initiating the final steps of the process.

The President and IFBB SA Head Office will do everything in their power to prepare and assist any deserving athlete, but the athlete is required to do everything in his/her power to abide by all of the requirements. However, this does not guarantee that he/she will automatically be successful with their final application. While the IFBB SA Head Office will do all that they can to present a positive motivation the final decision ultimately rests with the pro division of IFBB International.

Arnold Sports Festival expects to attract 170,000 over 3 days
Grown men will kick and punch one another. Children will flip and twirl. Overly muscled women will parade around in only the tiniest and shiniest scraps of clothing. And men will prove themselves strong by bench-pressing logs, heaving stones and carrying kegs full of sand.
And that’s only a sliver of what’s in the lineup for the 2010 Arnold Sports Festival that kicks off today, March 4, in Columbus.
Organizers expect more than 170,000 fans to visit the three-day show, which features 18,000 athletes competing in 44 sports.

Tanzanian bodybuilder off to Arnold Classic
Tanzania's bodybuilder David Nyombo has finally departed for the US to compete in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic World Bodybuilding Championship slated for March 4. The Africa's No.2 bodybuilder was to depart last week, but his much publicised trip hit a snag after failing to solicit Sh10 million that would cover expenses. However, much to his relief, Eaters Club of Masaki and Syncaremore Travelling Agency came forward to support him.
