Mveliso becomes SA’s first IFBB Elite Pro

Buffalo City bodybuilder Mveliso Tapi has been awarded his International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Elite Pro Card.

Mveliso, also known among fans as ‘The Giant Killer of Mdantsane’, defeated a host of top contenders at the 2017 IFBB South African National Championships hosted in September to take the Overall Men’s Bodybuilding title.

The ultra ripped 38-year-old was then selected to represent South Africa at the IFBB Men’s World Championships at the beginning of November in Spain where he walked away with bronze in the Senior Men up to/including 70kg category.

IFBB SA President Wayne Price awarded Mveliso with a Pro Card this week saying: “Mveliso is the first IFBB Elite Pro athlete in South Africa and I am extremely proud of him! He is an amazing ambassador for the IFBB and I am super proud to be working with him!”

All the Overall winners at the IFBB SA Nationals are eligible for their Elite Pro Cards. The Arnold Classic Africa is also sanctioned under the IFBB International and no longer under the NPC/IFBB Pro League.

The IFBB Elite Pro League is the newly established professional division of the IFBB International. The latter has recently parted ways with the National Physique Committee (NPC) and the IFBB Pro League and decided to reassume its professional activities under the banner of the IFBB Elite Pro League.

Mveliso’s interest in bodybuilding dates back to 1996 when as rail-thin young man from Mdantsane, a township near East London, he walked into a local gym for the first time. The iron bug bit him and he eventually opened his own gym in Mdantsane in 2011, working his way up through the ranks to become South Africa’s first IFBB Elite Pro League athlete.
