The bodybuilding community is still reeling from the shock at the news of the murder of 36-year-old Tyrel Jade Ekermans at the weekend.
The Boksburg-based bodybuilder and owner of supplement company TTT Nutrition was stabbed to death on Friday night in Table View, Cape Town. Ekermans is survived by his wife and a toddler son.
Ekermans’ sister‚ Bianca Lee Juchau‚ posted on Facebook: “No one can ever understand what you meant to me, the bond we had was unbreakable, nothing could ever come between us, how am I ever going to live without you?”
Ekermans came 4th in the Men’s Short Class at the Mr. Universe competition hosted by the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (IBFF) in Italy in 2014. He followed that up with a victory in the Men’s Short Class at the IBFF’s first show on the African continent at Vodaworld in Midrand in 2015.
In reaction to his death one of his closest friends and fellow bodybuilder, Mark Stent, wrote on social media: “I have no words… I can’t believe I will never get to laugh with you again… You were the single best and most loyal person I have ever met‚ I remember times of you saving me from myself at ungodly hours‚ you were never anything short of the perfect friend‚ no matter how busy you had time for me… Above all you were the best father on earth…”
According to police in the Western Cape no arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing incident.
