This past weekend proved that South Africa is definitely blessed with high calibre athletes.
South Africans have shown their mettle on the international stage while competing at the Mr. & Mrs. Universe competition hosted by the World Fitness Federation (WFF) on Saturday, 24 June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Juan Bothma and Le Che Hendry achieved 3rd places in their respective WFF Pro line-ups with fellow Pro Leandre van Zyl taking 4th spot.
Other South Africans who competed in Brazil were Michelle Maynier and Chantelle Labuschagne, both attaining a 7th spot in their Pro line-ups. Johnathan Rannachan came 2nd in the Men’s Junior under 23 section while Andile Skye finished 3rd in the Men’s Athletic category. Thepiso Masilo claimed 7th place in the Fitness Bodybuilding class. Amy Zinserling took 2nd place in the Bikini Model division and Nico Fourie finished in 7th place in what is known as the Men’s Extreme division.
Bikini Pro athletes Shona van der Merwe (7th ), Thato Seopa (8th ) and Chante van Wyk (9th ) can be proud of their placings as they battled some of the toughest opposition on stage. Rusty Sayed finished 8th in Performance Bodybuilding, a line-up consisting of 17 athletes. While the Universe competition saw local athletes representing their country with pride and professionalism, WFF SA President Alet Lemmer also achieved a milestone of her own by becoming WFF International’s Vice President.
