Arnold Classic to celebrate 30 years

The annual multi-sports extravaganza bearing 7-time Mr. Olympia winner Arnold Schwarzenegger’s name will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year with more than 75 sports, events and of course, bodybuilding.

The Arnold Sports Festival, hosted in Ohio, USA from the 1st to the 4th of March, will attract an estimated 200,000 sports and fitness fanatics to watch 18,000 athletes compete in 75 sports and events, including 17 Olympic events, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus, the Ohio Expo Center and other central Ohio venues.

The Arnold Classic and related IFBB Pro League events such as the Arnold Amateur National Physique Committee (NPC) will comprise of Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure, Bikini and Physique championships and will be hosted at the Battelle Grand and on the Arnold Fitness expo stage at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The competition is open for all amateur athletes around the world, regardless of federation affiliation. Overall winners will be awarded IFBB Pro League Cards. New in 2018 is Men’s Classic Physique for professional and amateur competitors.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer have co-produced the festival since 1989 when it debuted as a bodybuilding competition known as the Arnold Classic. The show has steadily grown into a four-day festival that features professional and amateur bodybuilding, weightlifting, powerlifting and strongman. Also featured is a lineup of youth sports that includes gymnastics, cheerleading and dance, fencing, martial arts and many others. The expo features more than 1,000 booths of the latest in sports equipment, apparel and nutrition with stages hosting competitions and entertainment for festival-goers.

The Arnold Classic Worldwide schedule for 2018 includes:

  • Arnold Sports Festival USA in Columbus, Ohio – March 1 to 4, 2018
  • Arnold Sports Festival Australia, Melbourne – March 16 to 18, 2018
  • Arnold Sports Festival South America, São Paulo, Brazil – April 20 to 22, 2018
  • Arnold Classic Africa, Johannesburg, South Africa – May 18 to 20, 2018
  • Arnold Classic Europe, Barcelona, Spain – September 21 to 23, 2018

After the split within the ranks of the IFBB at the end of last year the festivals in the USA and Australia will fall under the IFBB Pro League and the NPC while festivals in South America, Africa and Europe will work with the newly established IFBB Elite Pro League and the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness.
